5. What do you know about the company?

  • Why do recruiters ask this: To know if you have done your homework before speaking to them. It not just reveals how much you are interested in the job role but also shows how prepared you are when responsibility is given to you.   
  • How to answer it: First, you should have done your research on the company and role. But don’t sound as if you have memorized the information. Keep the conversation interactive and speak in a flow. You don’t have to give away every detail or stat about the company. No! Visit their website and social media accounts. You will have enough information to speak of, which looks natural and not rehearsed.

6. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

  • Why do recruiters ask this: To understand how you imagine your future and whether the path fits with the company’s objectives.     
  • How to answer it: Give general ideas on the skills that you desire to develop over the years and the kind of objectives you would want to accomplish down the line. 

7. Why do you think we should choose you for the role?

  • Why do recruiters ask this: To see how you pitch to “sell” yourself in the job market. It’s also about putting yourself in the recruiter’s shoes and giving them convincing answers to pick you over others.     

How to answer it: Focus more on explaining your unique qualities. Stand out from the pack by showcasing your education, knowledge, and problem-solving skills. Speak about your performance in different roles over the years and articulate how it helped the business.

  • Look at the camera, not the screen: This shows that you have good eye contact. Gaze at the camera and speak—pretty much the way you would do during a physical interview. Doing this appears as if you’re looking at the recruiter and talking when they watch your recorded video. 
  • Speak slowly and clearly: You might have heard this a thousand times, but it’s even more important to do it during an on-demand video interview.
